Upgradation of Rajapur to municipality demanded

People of Rajapur upazila of Jhalokati formed a human chain on Sunday to realise their different demands, including upgradation of Rajapur to a municipality. 

They called upon the government to take immediate step in this regard. 

The people of the human chain also demanded immediate step to protect a school from the river erosion of Bishkhali and construction of a modern echo park in Rajapur.  

The human chain, participated by the people of different professions, started in the morning and continued for about an hour. Upazila Muktijoddhya commander Shah Alam Nannu, upazila Awami League leader Dezling Talukder, president of Rajapur upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League Ahsan Habib Rubel and president of Upazila Mukijoddya Command Md Jalal Ahmed spoke at the human chain among others. 

The speakers said that they would keep on their all-out efforts to make the present government to declare Rajapur as a municipality. They said that it is long-cherished demand of the local people. The people of the upazila want immediate step in the regard, they added.

The speakers also said that the historic school of Rajapur named Badurla High School, is now under threat due to the river erosion. 

The school along with the local bazaar has to be protected. Immediate initiative has to be taken in this regard, they added.  

They said that a echo park should be constructed in Rajapur as it is a suitable place for this.0
