A Union Parishad member was stabbed to death in front of his house at village Purba Nayanpur in Gaibandha’s Palashbari upazila on Monday night.
Two brothers, neighbours of the deceased, were also injured in the incident.
The deceased was identified as Badsha Mia, a member of Ward-8 of Betkapa union parishad.
According to local people, Papul Akand of the village locked into altercation with Khairul, who was guarding the area at night due to rise in theft incidents as Khairul obstructed him.
UP member Badsha came outside his house to intervene and at one point the Papul stabbed him and two others indiscriminately.
They were rushed to Palashbari Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared Badsha Mia dead. Dibakar Adhikari, officer-in-charge of Palashbari police station, said that they were conducting drives to arrest the main accused.
