UP member on list of govt aid seekers

Amid the outbreak of coronavirus, there are allegations of massive irregularities in the list of names of providing financial assistance to the unemployed, destitute people from the Prime Minister's fund under the humanitarian aid program in Sharsha upazila of Jashore. 

The Sharsha Upazila administration is investigating the allegations. Under the humanitarian assistance program from the Prime Minister's fund, financial assistance of Tk 2,500 per person will be provided to 8,700 unemployed people in Sharsha Upazila.

In the first phase of which two thousand seven hundred people will get. It is learned that 90 percent of the list submitted in Sharsha Upazila does not match with identity.

Many of the names given do not match the addresses of the national identity cards.

Mobile number of a UP member has been enlisted beside 80 people in the list in Dehi Union in Sharsha.

The list of 2,700 people who received financial assistance for the first phase is being verified.

Those who do not have a SIM card are being provided with a SIM card. According to sources, the chairman and UP members of 11 union councils in Sharjah have compiled a list of names to provide financial assistance to unemployed people under the humanitarian aid program from the Prime Minister's Fund for coronavirus.

There are allegations that most of the names in the list are given to the ruling party workers, UP chairman and relatives of the members. Although the names of the unemployed were supposed to be given in the list, however the list includes names of rich, businessmen instead. While the list of names given by the chairman and members does not include the names of unemployed people, it has been reported that many of those who have been given names have one-storey two-storey houses.

Sharsha Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Laltu Mia said, the list of names to provide financial assistance will be sent to the Prime Minister's Office again.

He said there would be no irregularities in the provision of financial assistance from the Prime Minister's Fund under the humanitarian assistance program.
