Former UP member of Kargaon union parishad under Nabiganj upazila of Habignaj Liton Chandra Das was freed on the presence of Upazila Parishad Chairman Sheikh Fazlul Haque Selim after he returned the embezzled money on Monday.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tauhid-bin-Hasan confirmed the matter on Tuesday noon.
According to local social service office, on 2014 Liton Das embezzled Tk 40, 000 from Shapna Rani Das and disabled Samiron Das as widow and disability allowance respectively.
Upazila Social Service officer Abdur Nur seized two allowance cards and took initiative against former UP member.
On information, UNO called on a meeting with Liton Das and two victims. At that time, Liton Das returned Tk40, 000 to two victims. Later, Liton Das free in the custody of UP chairman.
