UP member candidate shot in Cox’s Bazar

Member candidate in the UP elections in Cox's Bazar, Kudurat Ullah and his brother Zahirul Islam Sikder were shot by miscreants.

The incident took place in the Link Road area of Cox's Bazar town around 10pm on Friday. They were admitted into Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital in critical condition. Witnesses said the miscreants opened fire at the office of Cox's Bazar District Workers League president Zahirul Islam Sikder and his brother Kudrat Ullah Sikder, a member candidate of Ward 4 of Jhilangjha Union in Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila.

Kudrat Ullah Sikder and Zahir Ullah Sikder were shot and miscreants then fled on a motorbike. The two of them fell to the ground, witnesses said. Kudrat Ullah Sikder's assistant and several others were injured.

Shafiullah Anshari, general secretary of the district Sramik League, said the incident was caused by his rival candidate Liaquat Bahini. They have repeatedly attacked Kudrat Ullah's election rally. Sadar Model Police Station OC Sheikh Munir Ul Ghias said police were continuing their operation to arrest the attackers.
