An old man named Islam Uddin (64) was assaulted by Union Parishad (UN) member for seeking relief. The incident took place on Wednesday night at a shop next to Ruhia West Union Parishad Bhaban No. 20 in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
Witnesses said Islam Uddin, a resident of Kashalgaon village in Ruhia West Union of Sadar Upazila, was sitting in a shop next to the UP building. Yes. At that time Islam Uddin said, “The government's initiative to distribute relief is good. However, despite being poor we did not receive any relief.
Whenever I go to the UP member, he says no such relief arrived.”
Someone leaked the allegation of the old man to UP member Bishwanath Barman and he immediately rushed to the spot and slapped Islam Uddin. At one point, when the old man fell to the ground, his son Mustafa came forward and was beaten by them too.
The victim Islam Uddin said, “Member Bishwanath Barman has beaten me up for complaining that I did not get any relief. I want exemplary punishment for this incident.”
In this regard, UP member Bishwanath said, “Islam Uddin insulted me and the UP Chairman. When I found out about the matter, I slapped the old man a few times on the Chairman’s advice.”
Ruhia Police Station OC Chittaranjan Roy said, “I have heard that a member of Ruhia Union Parishad No. 20 has beaten up an old man. No police action has been taken as no one has lodged a complaint.”
