Moin Uddin Moyen, Chairman of Shimanto Union Parishad under Jibannagar Upazila of Chuadanga, was sent to jail in a case of embezzlement in the name of sending people abroad on Tuesday.

Earlier on January 24, the court sentenced Moin Uddin to two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 10 lakh under Overseas Employment and Migration Act.

UP Chairman Moin Uddin Moin is the son of Intaz Ali of Gayeshpur village under Jibannagar upazila and the President of Jibannagar upazila Juba Dal. According to the case sources, Moin offered to send Alamgir Hossain, son of Salauddin of Laxmipur village under Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga, abroad with the hope of a good salary. Moin uddin took Tk 10 lakh from him twice in the name of sending him abroad.

However, instead of sending Alamgir abroad, Moin started procrastinating in various ways. At one point, Alamgir's brother Mizanur Rahman filed a case against UP Chairman Moin with Damurhuda Model Police Station.

Damurhuda police submitted a charge sheet against Moin in the case filed on May 30 in 2019. After taking testimony of three witnesses, the court imposed a fine of Tk 10 lakh on him with two years of rigorous imprisonment in the absence of Moin Uddin.

On Tuesday afternoon, two days after the verdict was announced, convict Moin Uddin appeared before Chuadanga Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court and applied for bail, but the court denied bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
