On charges of embezzling relief rice and selling it on the black market, Chairman of No. 3 Muradia Union Parishad of Dumki Upazila in Patuakhali Md. Zafarullah and two UP members have been temporarily suspended.
The two UP members are identified as Mahfuzur Rahman Khan, UP member of 4th ward and Md. Jahidul Islam, UP member of 2nd ward.
They were dismissed in an order signed by Mohammad Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on October, 19.
On October 5, locals snatched relief rice from Muradia Union Parishad's warehouse while it was being smuggled with auto bikes. UNO Al Imran, in-charge of Dumki, rushed to the spot and seized 15 sacks of relief rice.
The Upazila Project Implementation Officer filed a case against Chairman Zafarullah and two UP members Mahfuzur Rahman Khan and Zahidul Islam on the same night.
The accused UP chairman and two UP members have been absconding since the incident.
