Untimely rain affects Aman paddy in Jhenaidah

Published : 14 Nov 2021 10:51 PM

Untimely rain started from Friday night has been affecting the standing and almost ripen transplanting Aman (T-Aman) in Jhenaidah. Paddy on a good number of the Aman plots has leaned to the grounds when the continuous mid and medium rainfall was swiping. It might hamper the production and affect the farmers in the current T-Aman season, said the farmers.

Some farmers at Raghunandanpur and Bagutia villages of Shailkupa upazila and Maharajur villages of Jhenaidah Sadar upazila said some of their T-Aman plots were ripen and remaining to be ripen within a few days.

A good number of farmers had also put the harvested paddy on the croplands for taking them to houses.

But the mild and medium rainfall started from the night of Friday have slapped their fates as huge ripen paddy plants leaned to the grounds. It will affect the paddy if the rainfall continues further.

They were hopeful enough to receive better prices of paddy and paddy straw both, while the dream could not come true due to the untimely rainfall, they opined.

Deputy Director of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah, Asgar Ali when contacted, said the harvested paddy kept on the plots might be affected partly, while the mild rainfall could not affect the standing paddy if there was no more rainfall continuously.

He had advised the farmers to bring the harvested paddy to their homes and separate the same from straw without delay, he said.
