Charfession upazila in Bhola hosted an award distribution ceremony for meritorious students under the Performance-Based Grants for Secondary Institutions Scheme (SEDP) for the fiscal years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.
The event jointly organised by the Upazila Secondary and Higher Education Office and the District Education Office, took place at 11 AM in the Upazila Hall Room on Wednesday.
Chaired by Charfession Upazila Education Officer, Mir AKM Abul Khair, the ceremony welcomed Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rasna Sharmin Mithi as the chief guest. Thirty-five talented students who successfully passed their SSC and HSC examinations from various schools, madrasas and colleges were presented with cash prizes and crests.
In her address, the UNO emphasised the crucial role of parents and guardians in improving the quality of education. She said, "Teachers alone are not sufficient for excellent results in educational institutions. The role of guardians is also a key factor. The combined efforts of both guardians and teachers can contribute to the improvement of educational standards."
She also highlighted that many parents lack adequate knowledge on how to properly assist their children. Therefore, just as educational institutions have a responsibility in nurturing students' talents and potential, close supervision by guardians is equally vital for their development.
She stressed the importance for parents to closely observe and create opportunities for their children to discover their talents.
Addressing the students, Ms. Mithi advised, "Simply acquiring theoretical knowledge is not enough. One must possess good character, religious ethics, and continue to perform well in education in the coming days to advance the country."
Special guests who spoke at the event included Assistant Superintendent of Police (Charfession Circle) Mehedi Hasan, former Mayor ANM Amirul Islam Mintij and Maulana Mostafa Kamal, Principal of Ozufia Alim Madrasa. They collectively stated that providing performance-based incentives at the school level for improving educational standards creates enthusiasm among teachers and contributes to a better learning environment.
They added that this recognition ceremony is not just limited to acknowledging students; it encourages education and human values, which will serve as an inspiration for building the future society.
The event was attended by principals, head teachers, teachers, students, journalists and guardians from various educational institutions in the upazila. The program was anchored by Academic Supervisor Khalilur Rahman, during which students also expressed their feelings.
