University education system in Bangladesh has improved a lot in the past few decades. With the advent of private universities the number of graduates each year has increased and the rate of higher education has also increased. But, due to this positive incline in privatised higher education, the quality of education has decreased quite a bit in the public universities of the country. On this note, there have been several reports which have been published in various national dailies.
However, recent reports show a startling revelation, nearly 7000 teachers from public universities are not taking regular classes and many of them are staying abroad without the permission of the universities concerned. This is causing a lot of problem among the students of public universities as the teachers are failing to keep to their routine classes.
The private universities too tend to higher
public university teachers at a higher rate
of remuneration for providing their own
students with quality education
The public universities are institutions which give the meritorious students coming from humble beginnings a chance to get higher education as the private universities are reserved for more wealthy people of the society. Under these circumstances if the public university teachers opt out for private universities for better remunerations then it hampers the quality of education which the students get there.
Moreover, there are reports which say that the teachers of public universities are holders of multiple full-time and part-time jobs as a result they fail to provide quality education to the students of public universities. The private universities too tend to hire public university teachers at a higher rate of remuneration for providing their own students with quality education. As a result of which the public university students are becoming sufferers.
The authorities concerned should look to developing a code of conduct or policy for the teachers of the public universities. But, only developing won’t solve the problem at hand rather the proper implementation and abidance according to the policy should be ensured so that the public university students don’t become the sufferers.
