Manchester United have triggered a clause in Nemanja Matic’s contract to keep the midfielder at Old Trafford for another year. Sky Sports are reporting that the club are in talks about extending the deal further. It’s been a sharp turn around in fortunes for the Serbian midfielder, who started the season on the fringes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
However, the former Chelsea man has started nine of the last 10 league games for United. His improvement in performances have helped the club go on their best run of the season, having been unbeaten in 11 games before the break in football due to the coronavirus outbreak. Matic’s contract has now been extended until 2021. The 31-year-old was brought to the club by Jose Mourinho and has made 109 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.
Matic has made 22 first-team outings for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this term and it had been said that he had the exact qualities that Diego Simeone is hopeful of adding to his ranks this coming summer. Matic was said to be on Atleti’s radar but he will be remaining at Old Trafford for at least another year.
