Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel MP said that everyone hates giving and taking dowry and drugs.
However, there is no relief from the curse of dowry and drugs. Those who are rich and affluent spend a lot of money on marriage and make their daughter a potter. This is the main reason why dowry system is alive in the society.
The minister said the government's main goal is to establish a just and humane state through strict enforcement of anti-dowry and anti-drug laws. Along with the various steps taken by the government, the dowry system and drugs have to be eradicated from the country and society through the joint efforts of the Alem Samaj.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the 13th Dowry and Anti-Drug Rally organised by the Rajvia Nuria Committee Bangladesh at the Jamiatul Falah Mosque ground in Chittagong on Saturday.
The general assembly was held under the chairmanship of committee chairman and professor of Chittagong University Mohammad Kausar Hamid.
The committee honoured Helal Akbar Babar, a former student leader who stood by the people during the coronavirus pandemic and invented the Corona Prevention Booth.
The keynote speaker at the programme was Muhammad Abul Kashem Noori, President of Anjuman-e-Rajviya Nuria Trust and Central Secretary General of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat Bangladesh.
He said that heinous diseases like dowry and drugs are terrible in the country and society. It will never happen if the scholars (Alems) look after the matter. Scholars, Imams and Pir Mashayekhs have to play a responsible role from their respective positions to get rid of all kinds of social ills including dowry and drugs.
He urged the government to strictly enforce existing laws to stop dowry, drugs, women and children abuse.
Pir Maulana Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Al Hasani of Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif said that dowry and drugs are social ills. We are nurturing and caring for it without our knowledge. We are not aware. With the concerted efforts of all, it may soon be possible to pull off the social degradation trend, including dowry and drugs.
At the end of the discussion, a colourful anti-dowry and anti-drug rally led by Allama Abul Kashem Nuri parraded various streets of the city.
