UNDP to support dev of eco-tourism in Cox’s Bazar

As a result of climate change, UNDP has assured assistance to the Cox's Bazar Development Authority in creating skilled manpower for the development of climate-tolerant environment, eco-friendly tourism industry and green economy in the coastal areas of Cox's Bazar.

Such an assurance was given in the exchange meeting organized by the Cox's Bazar Development Authority with the representatives of UNDP.

Chairman Retired Commodore Mohammad Nurul Abshar presided over the meeting held at the Chairman's conference room of Cox's Bazar Development Authority on Tuesday afternoon. Top officials of the organization including UNDP Bangladesh Deputy Resident Representative Van Nguyen spoke in it.

At the beginning of the meeting, various plans were discussed in the overall development of Cox's Bazar district including climate tolerant environment, construction of housing for low-income people, development of Cox's Bazar and St. Martin's beach, hotel-motel waste management, eco-tourism, STP, women's development, development of education system.

At the end of the meeting, Chairman Mohammad Nurul Abshar said that several development plans were discussed from the Cox's Bazar Development Authority in the exchange meeting with UNDP. There was a consultative discussion about how we can get technical experts for sustainable development in Cox's Bazar. Apart from this, Rohingya camp activities, hotel-motel waste management in Cox's Bazar, along with development suggestions for implementation of developed tourism city. Some chairman said, 'We have discussed how to make a technical college in the remote island of Maheshkhali. Besides, there was a discussion about the construction of Maheshkhali-Cox's Bazar link road to increase the development sector.

 In addition, discussions were held with the aim of attracting skilled people for the development of Cox's Bazar. Together with UNDP, I think it will play an important role in the development of today's Cox's Bazar.

At the end of the meeting, caucus chairman Mohammad Nurul Abshar said, "In the exchange meeting with UNDP, several development plans were discussed from the Cox's Bazar Development Authority.

At this time some members Lt. Colonel Khizir Khan, UNDP Cox's Bazar Chief Robert Steilman along with Cox’s Bazar Development Authorities and UNDP researchers and officials were present.
