A housewife in Sonagazi in Feni was raped by her uncle and his two friends. Two of the accused were arrested on Friday night The arrestees are Md Harun, son of Sirajul Islam and his accomplice Masum, son of Korban Ali.
The victim lodged a complaint against them at Sonagazi Model Police Station under Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act. According to the case statement and police sources, the victim's husband lives at Kompaniganj upazila of Noakhali district.
She had a quarrel with him on Friday morning. Then the woman went to her grandfather's house in Charchandia village of Sonagazi upazila. On learning the matter, the alleged uncle Harun left for Kompaniganj with his niece to settle the dispute.
But as it was getting late, Harun took the woman at his father-in-law's house. In the evening, Masum and Hridoy, two of his associates, went to Harun's father-in-law's house.
Harun then told his niece that he had talked to her husband and told her to get ready to go to her husband's house. At around 8pm, Harun and three others took the woman in an autorickshaw.
After going some distance, they blindfolded her and covered her face and took her near a bush in Dakshin Char Chandia area of Sonagazi Upazila and raped her. When the victim lost consciousness, they drove her back to Harun’s father-in-law's house.
When the housewife regained consciousness, the rapists threatened to kill her and her husband if they tell anyone about the incident. The next morning, she told him about the rape. He immediately took her to police station.
Sonagazi Model Police Station OC Sajedul Islam confirmed the matter and said that the accused uncle Harun and his accomplice Masum have been arrested. Attempts are being made to arrest another accused. He said the victim was taken to Feni Modern Sadar Hospital on Friday night, for a physical examination.
