The visiting United Nations (UN) delegation appreciates the Bangladesh government’s relocation arrangements for the Rohingya refugees to Bhasan Char from Cox’s Bazar camps.

The UN, responsible for supplying the basic humanitarian needs of the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, remains silent on the issue of Rohingyas relocation since the initiatives were taken.

The Bangladesh government has developed housing facilities and already relocated more than 13,000 Rohingya refugees to Bhasan Char from the overcrowded camps in Cox's Bazaar amid opposition from UN agencies and  rights groups.

The delegation members now on a field visit to conduct technical assessment on Bhasan Char, a remote island of Noakhali district, also expressed their satisfaction.

UN in association with international community

should ramp up pressure on Myanmar immediately

so that it creates a congenial environment for the

repatriation of displaced Rohingyas with safety and dignity

We think the UN, other foreign countries and right bodies now will come forward and extend all out cooperation to Bangladesh in order to ensure smooth relocation of Rohingyas. The UN delegates are very much pleased to see the accommodation and other facilities for Rohingyas.

Most of them came here after the Myanmar military launched a brutal offensive on the pretext of a 'clearance operation' on August 25, 2017. Refugees and rights groups have accused the military and its local collaborators of crimes, including murder, rape, torture, loot, and arson.

Without UN and other international bodies’ support Bangladesh government has launched various programmes to improve the living standards and livelihood of the Rohingyas who have gone to Bhasan Char.

Therefore, we think the UN in association with the international community should ramp up pressure on Myanmar immediately so that it creates a congenial environment for the repatriation of displaced Rohingyas with safety and dignity.
