The newly-elected Chairman of Ukhiya Upazila in Cox’s Bazar Jahangir Kabir Chowdhury, Vice-Chairman journalist Rassel Chowdhury and Woman Vice-Chairman Shahin Akhter took oath on Wednesday.
Md Tofayel Ahmed, Commissioner of Chattogram Division, administered the oath of the newly-elected Chairman, vice-Chairman and woman vice-Chairman at Chittagong Circuit House. Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tanvir Hossain and DIG of Chattogram Range Noor E Alam Mina were present at the programme.
After the oath, Divisional Commissioner Md Tofayel Ahmed congratulated the elected public representatives of different upazilas with flowers and asked them to fulfill their responsibilities with patriotism, honesty, devotion and responsibility. The Upazila Chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman also expressed their commitment to fulfill their responsibilities properly.
After the oath taking program, the newly-elected Upazila Chairman Jahangir Kabir Chowdhury said, “I am going to take over the responsibility of Upazila Chairman from today. As a chairman, I want to do every activity with specific planning and develop Ukhiya into a modern upazila to continue the advancement of development. I want to develop the upazila and establish peace with the advice and cooperation of everyone.”
Later, the newly-elected Chairman and vice-chairmen exchanged greetings with flowers with leaders, activists and supporters outside the Circuit House.
The Chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman were elected through the third phase of the Upazila Parishad polls on 29 May.
