United International University (UIU) has received national recognition as Professor Khondaker A. Mamun, PhD, was honoured with the Telecom and ICT Award 2025 for his remarkable contributions to the country’s telecom and ICT sector.
The award was given by the Post and Telecommunication Division under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology in celebration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2025. The award ceremony was held in Dhaka on 17 May.
Mr. Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, handed over the award. Prominent guests including Mr. Fayez Ahmed Tayeb, Special Assistant to the Honorable Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Mr. Md. Shish Haydar Chowdhury, NDC, Secretary, ICT Division, and Ms. Mahbuba Farzana, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting were also present.
Professor Mamun is a Professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of UIU. He is the founder of the Advanced Intelligent Multidisciplinary Systems Lab (AIMS Lab) and Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation and Commercialization (IRIIC), the first research-to-commercialization institute in Bangladesh.
He has over 20 years of contributions in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. His AI-powered healthcare initiative ‘CMED Health’ has already created digital health accounts for over 4 million people in Bangladesh and aims to improve healthcare access for low- and middle-income countries.
Prof. Mamun is also known for his pioneering research in Brain–Computer Interfaces, assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, and AI-based education tools. He has advised the government in formulating AI strategies and inclusive digital policies.
This award marks a milestone for UIU and highlights Bangladesh’s growing focus on innovation and digital transformation.
