MATE ROV World Championship 2025

UIU ranks 1st in Asia, 5th globally

United International University (UIU) has made the country proud by achieving remarkable success at the MATE ROV World Championship 2025. The university’s underwater robotics team, UIU MARINER, secured 5th place globally and became the 1st in Asia in the PIONEER Class category of the competition.

The prestigious event was held from June 17 to 22, 2025, at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Alpena, Michigan, USA. Organized by the Marine Technology Society, USA, the championship brought together top university teams from countries including the USA, Canada, Egypt, Mexico, and Bangladesh.

UIU MARINER also clinched the Technical Documentation Champion title, earning an impressive score of 81 out of 100 in this category. The team presented a self-built Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and was evaluated across eight categories, including Product Demonstration, Engineering Presentation, Technical Documentation, Marketing Display, and Safety.

The 10-member team was supervised by Professor Emeritus Dr. M. Rezwan Khan (Dept. of EEE), Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Muzahidul Islam, Mr. Fahim Hafiz, and Mr. Saifur Rahman from the Dept. of CSE. Anika Tabassum Orchi from the Dept. of CSE led the team as Project Manager, while Farhan Zaman served as Head of Research and Development.

UIU MARINER’s total score of 377 points among 13 finalist teams in the PIONEER Class stands as a proud achievement for Bangladesh in international robotics competitions. This success has proved that with talent, teamwork, and determination, Bangladeshi students can shine on the global stage.
