Dr. Tahmina Faiz, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacy at United International University (UIU), has been honoured with the prestigious Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Early Career Fellowship for 2024. This international recognition was given for her remarkable contributions to scientific research.

The OWSD Fellowship is awarded annually to promising women researchers from developing countries to enhance their research capabilities, foster international collaboration, and build scientific leadership. Sponsored by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), this program plays a key role in strengthening research opportunities in the Global South.

Dr. Tahmina Faiz is one of only 15 scientists from Bangladesh to receive this fellowship in 2024. She completed her PhD from Japan’s renowned Nagoya University and is currently engaged in innovative research on hydrogel technology for advanced wound healing.

As part of the fellowship program, she recently participated in a four-day orientation workshop in Trieste, Italy. The event brought together selected women scientists from around the world, offering a platform to discuss research planning, leadership, and strategies for social change through science. Various sessions were organized on research management, funding strategies, public engagement, and contributions to policy-making.

At the closing ceremony of the workshop, Dr. Tahmina Faiz received the UNESCO-OWSD Early Career Fellowship Award Certificate for 2024. This proud achievement marks a significant milestone in her career and will inspire further research initiatives, while also strengthening the presence of Bangladeshi women scientists on the global stage
