University of Asia Pacific (UAP) observed World Pharmacists Day 2026 through a special celebration and felicitation program organized by the School of Pharmacy, UAP, on September 26, 2026, at the UAP Auditorium.
Held under the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures,” the program highlighted the vital role of pharmacists in healthcare and public health and brought together distinguished pharmacists, policymakers, and academic leaders from across Bangladesh.
The program recognized professionals for their outstanding achievements, professional excellence, leadership, and significant contributions to academia and regulatory bodies.
Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain, Minister of Health and Family Welfare attended the program as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Md. Selim Reza, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka; and K. M. Mozibul Hoque, Chairman, Board of Trustees, UAP, were present as Special Guests. Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Acting Vice-Chancellor, UAP, chaired the program.
The celebration began with a colorful rally marking World Pharmacists Day. The felicitation program at the UAP Auditorium commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Zabun Nahar, Head, Department of Pharmacy, UAP.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahriar, Dean, School of Pharmacy, UAP, delivered a presentation highlighting the key activities, achievements, and contributions of UAP and its School of Pharmacy. The program also featured remarks from the distinguished guests.
In his keynote address, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare highlighted the important role of pharmacists in healthcare and public health and emphasized the need for professional excellence, responsible practice, and greater contributions from the pharmacy sector toward building a healthier future.
A major highlight of the event was the Awards Giving Ceremony, where distinguished professionals from regulatory bodies and academic institutions were honored for their contributions to the pharmacy profession.
From the regulatory bodies, the award recipients were Md. Alamgir Hossain, Director General, Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA); Prof. Dr. Md. Aslam Hossain, Member, University Grants Commission (UGC); Prof. Dr. Md. Shah Amran, Member, Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC); and Mr. Muhammad Mahbubul Haque, Secretary, Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh (PCB).
From academia, the award recipients were Dr. Choudhury Mahmood Hasan, Professor Emeritus, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of Dhaka; Dr. Md. Abdur Rashid, Professor Emeritus, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of Dhaka; Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Acting Vice-Chancellor, University of Asia Pacific (UAP); Prof. Dr. Mamunur Rashid, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Rajshahi; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Safiqul Islam, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Noakhali Science and Technology University ; Prof. Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Treasurer, Jahangirnagar University; and Prof. Dr. Md. Selim Reza, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the Chair, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, followed by a group photograph and closing ceremony.
The celebration reflected UAP’s commitment to recognizing professional excellence and highlighting the important role of pharmacists in advancing healthcare and public health in Bangladesh.
