Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Alam announced on Thursday that the ‘Typhoid Vaccination Campaign (TCV)-2025’ will be launched across Chattogram district to prevent the spread of typhoid fever.
The campaign will run in educational institutions and permanent centres from 12 to 30 October, and in community centres (both permanent and temporary) from 1 to 13 November, excluding Fridays and public holidays.
One dose of the TCV vaccine will be administered free of charge to children aged 9 months to 15 years, particularly those from pre-primary to Class 9, across 15 upazilas of the district. The campaign aims to vaccinate 1,632,041 children—1,134,071 through schools and madrasas, and 497,970 at the community level. In Chattogram city alone, 829,301 children are expected to receive the vaccine.
As of 8 October, over 992,000 children had completed online registration via www.vaxepi.gov.bd, using their 17-digit birth registration number. However, children who are unable to register will still receive the vaccine.
The campaign will be launched at Patiya Government High School on Sunday, 12 October. A total of 1,215 trained staff, 1,800 volunteers, and 660 inspectors will oversee the drive in 600 wards of 200 unions.
Dr Alam urged families, teachers, and religious leaders to raise awareness. The vaccine is safe, with only minor side effects expected. He warned the public not to pay heed to misinformation and encouraged all eligible children to get vaccinated.
