A two-and-a-half-year-old child has been raped by a drug addict in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar. The child has been admitted to Ukhia Health Complex in critical condition.
The incident took place at around 4:30 pm on Thursday at a government shelter project in Ward 5 of Haldia Palang Union.
Locals detained Didar Mia, a notorious drug addict, and handed him over to police on Thursday night.
The victim's father said Didar Mia from Maricha area used to go to a house next to his house every day to take yaba. My two-and-a-half-year-old child was playing next to the house when he returned home after consuming yaba on Thursday, when he found her alone, raped her and fled in a bloody state. Many have seen Didar Mia fleeing.
After hearing the crying of the baby girl, my wife came and rescued her in a horrible condition. When he later informed the local chairman, he rushed to the spot.
Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, chairman of Haldia Palang Union Parishad, said, "When the victim's father informed me about the incident, I immediately went to the spot and arranged for the child to be admitted to the hospital." The rapist was later arrested with the help of locals and handed over to the police. Ukhia Police Station OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali said the accused Didar Mia was arrested at night with the help of the chairman and locals. He is being questioned.
He said the child's physical condition was investigated at the hospital. The baby is currently under the care of a doctor. The case is being processed, the police official said.
