Two women were brutally stabbed to death and another was critically injured in a knife attack at their residence in Bogura city's Islampur Harigari area on Wednesday night.
The attack took place around 8:15 PM while the three victims were inside their home.
The victims have been identified as Laily Bewa, 83, and Habiba Yasmin, 21, wife of Parvez Islam. The two are related as grandmother-in-law and granddaughter-in-law. The injured, Bonya, sister of Pervez, is undergoing treatment at the surgery ward of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) in critical condition.
Injured Bonya's cousin Md. Khokon said, "A boy named Saikat likes Bonya. He often bothered her. This evening, since there was no man at home, seven or eight others including Saikat entered the house. Then Bonya's sister-in-law Habiba asked to leave the men. Enraged by this, they first stabbed Habiba in the throat. Laily was then stabbed in the throat. At that time, when Bonya rushed in, they stabbed her in the stomach as well and fled."
Chilimpur Medical Outpost SI Gaziul Haque said, ''Bonya was talking with a boy named Saikat at her home. During their conversation, a conflict arose over some issue, and Bonya was stabbed. When others tried to intervene, first Habiba and then their grandmother Laily were also stabbed, and they died at the scene. Bonya has stab wounds in three places on her body and her condition is critical.''
Bogura Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafa Manjur told reporters that they have started an operation to arrest the accused.
