Two women of a family were hacked to death and two others, including a man and woman, sustained injuries during a clash over land dispute at Shanghat village under Gangni upazila in Meherpur on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Josna Khatun, 52 and Jakiul Ilma, 42, wife of Jahid Hossain, both resident of Shanghat village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
A man name Mohibul Islam Ohid committed the murder. Josna Khatun is his sister and Jakiul Ilma is his brother’s wife.
Mohibul’s brother Jahid Hossain and his younger sister Shamima Khatun were also injured at that time. Mohibul hacked them as well and later, fled the scene.
Locals said the incident took place in the area while Elma's brother-in-law Mohibul Islam Ohid attacked the women Elma and Josna with a machete during a family discussion over an ancestral property, leaving them dead.
Zahid Hossain and Shamima Khatun were admitted to Gangni Upazila Health Complex. Following the incident, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pritam Saha and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Tajul Islam visited the spot.
