Two villagers murdered in Kishoreganj

At least two people were killed and over 50 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Itna upazila in Kishoreganj on Saturday (26 December).

The victims were identified as Badal Mia, 45, son of Nur Hossain of Prajarkanda village, and Mirash Ali, 70, of Shantipur village of the upazila. 

According to locals and eyewitnesses, villagers of Shantipur and Prajarkanda villages of Mriga union of the upazila had been arguing over various issues for a long time. On Friday (December 25), a dispute broke out with some people from the two villages over the lifting of people at the tempo at the local tempo stand. At night in Amirganj market, the two sides sat in arbitration.

Ataur of Prajarkanda village was beaten by people of Shantipur. As a result, at least 2,000 people from both sides clashed near the market with domestic weapons around 9:00 am on Saturday (December 26). More than 50 people from both sides were injured and two died on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge Itna Police Station Murshed Zaman said that police brought the situation 

under control. 

The bodies were recovered and sent to Kishoreganj 250-Bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
