Seven carriages and a locomotive of Dhaka-bound passenger train Sonar Bangla Express were derailed when it hit a freight train at Hasanpur station of Nangalkot in Cumilla.
"Dhaka-bound Sonar Bangla Express from Chattogram hit a freight train from behind at Hasanpur station at 6.45pm caused its locomotive and seven carriages-four Sobhon class chair coaches and three AC coaches to derail," Railway Ministry's information office SharifulAlam told BSS.
Twenty five people were injured including five critically in the incident.
He said the accident took place when the Sonar Bangla Express entered a loop line where the freight train was stationary.
