A court in Barishal on Monday sentenced two men to death for the rape and murder of a young girl in 2013.
Judge Rakibul Islam of the Barishal Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict, handing the death penalty to Kabir Akon and Jabbar Bepari, both residents of Hizla upazila.
The court also fined each convict Tk one lakh.
According to the case details, on July 28, 2013, the convicts raped Khadiza at Purba Koralia village of Hizla while she was returning home. They later killed her and dumped her body in a canal.
The victim’s maternal uncle, Moktar Hossain, filed the case following the incident. Police later recovered Khadiza’s body from the canal.
