Supporters of opposition candidates stabbed two supporters of 'Boat' and injured them seriously during the campaign of Arani Municipality elections at Nur Nagar area of the municipality around 10-00 pm on Thursday.
The injured persons were identified as Bazlur Rahman(45), General Secretary of Ward-4 Nurnagar ward AL and his nephew Arif Hossain(35). They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital the same night.
Injured persons complained a tension had been prevailing in the area centring the election for several-day. They claimed, rebel candidates and the supporters of incumbent Mayor Muktar Ali attacked and stabbed them.
Nazrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bagha police station in this connection said, the attackers and the victims of the attack are cousins. One side is supporters of the Boat and the other is of Cocoa-nut tree.
Police have been sent to the spot soon after the incident but no attackers were found. Police even did not get any written complaint in this connection.
