Two smugglers held with 12 gold bars

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two alleged gold smugglers along with 12 gold bars, weighing around six kg, in a drive from Putkhali border in Benapole Port police station on Thursday (November 18) afternoon. 

21 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Manzoor E Elahi said, a team of the border guards, acting on a tip-off, arrested Md Liton Mia (26) and Md. Shahjahan Mandal (32) along with 12 pieces of gold bars while they were going to India through Putkhali border around 3:30pm. 

Total value of the recevered gold is Tk 90 lakh 40 thousand. The houses of both the detainees are in Putkhali village of Benapole.

The arrestees, gold bars and motorcycles, used by the alleged smugglers, have been handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case has been registered with the police station in this regard.
