The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Chuadanga District Office, carried out raids in the Natun Bazar and Balaipur Mor areas of Sadar Upazila on Thursday.
During the operation, two shops were fined a total of Tk 20,000.
The inspections focused on shops selling seeds, pesticides, medicines, and gas. Messrs. Habil & Sons, located in Natun Bazar, was fined Tk 5,000 for overcharging, while Messrs. Rana Crockeries in Balaipur was fined Tk 15,000 for illegally storing gas. The fines were imposed under Sections 40 and 52 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.
During the raids, shop owners were instructed to update price lists, sell products and gas at fair and fixed prices, and refrain from selling expired or substandard goods, medicines, or seeds.
The operation was led by Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, Assistant Director of the Chuadanga District Office. He was assisted by Md Rafiqul Islam, a representative of CAB (Consumers Association of Bangladesh), and a team from the District Police.
Authorities have stated that such drives will continue to ensure consumer protection and to prevent unfair trade practices in the area.
