Monsur Alam, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal , awarded two accused death penalty in sensational child Swapna murder and rape case at a crowded court on Monday noon.
Death penalty awarded to convicts have been identified as Saidur alias Jack, 35, son of late Zhonu Mondol and Rana, 30, son of Hasen, both of Pakuria Uttar para village under Shahmukhdum police station of the city. The death sentenced convicts were also fined Tk. 1 lakh each.
The convicts were present at the court during the pronouncement of the verdict.
According to the case particulars, on August 23, 2013 victim Swapna Khatun alias Beli, 10, went to visit her aunt’s house at Pakuria from Majigram of Shahmukhdum police station. Around 2:00pm while she had been returning home from her aunt’s house, Saidur and Rana started follow her and stopped her near Chan Mia’s bamboo grove.
The road being deserted, Saidur and Rana dragged Swapna inside the bamboo grove and raped her repeatedly. Finally they killed her by strangulating. However, after searching various places, villagers recovered Swapna’s body from an abandoned graveyard of the area.
Siddik Ali, Swapna’s father filed a murder and rape case against Saidur and Rana under Shahmukhdum police station in this connection on August 24, 2013. After cross examining the witnesses, the judge pronounced the verdict on Monday noon.
