Police recovered the hanging bodies of two NGO workers, including a woman, from different places in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Mehrab Hossain, 30, son of Mozammel Haque, hailed from Majhpara area of Bauphal Upazila in Patuakhali district and Popy Dev, 27, daughter of Shukhlal Dev, resident of Kasba area under Nabiganj Upazila of Habiganj district. Both of them were employees of the international NGO, RTM International.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhiya Police Station Md Arif Hossain said the bodies were recovered from two different places of Ukhiya Sadar Upazila in the morning.
Police said although primarily it is assumed that they might have committed suicide, police are trying to reveal the mystery behind the incident.
Quoting locals, Md Arif Hossain said locals informed police about an incident of suicide of a youth near Rajapalong union parishad in Ukhiya Sadar Upazila at around 9:00am. Later, a team of police rushed to the spot and recovered the hanging body of the youth from a house in the area.
On the other hand, the hanging body of a woman named Popy Dev was recovered by another team of police from a different place of the Upazila at around 10:30am, the OC said.
Primarily, the incidents were assumed as suicides. However, police are trying to unveil the mystery of the incidents, he added.
Md Arif Hossain said the bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Zila Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
