Two new tugboats to be added to Mongla fleet

Two 80-ton tugboats with the highest bollard pool capacity and state-of-the-art technology to date will be added to the fleet at Mongla Port. The two new tug boats for the port of Mongla will be built by Chioli Shipyard, a Hong Kong-based shipbuilding company. To this end, a joint agreement has been signed with the Mongla Port Authority.

The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Shipping on Thursday. State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at that time. Also present were Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, Chairman, Mongla Port Authority, Mezbahuddin Chowdhury, Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Tarafdar Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Chairman, E-Engineering Ltd., Bangladesh's local representative at Chioli Shipyard.

After the signing ceremony, Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, said the agreement was reached to build two tugboats  with Japanese and European  equipment.

If those tug boats are added to the fleet of the two ports, the capacity of Mongla port will be increased. The port chairman said that if the tugboard was added to the port fleet

In addition to berthing and towing operations of any type of large foreign ship, these boards will be used to carry out emergency 

work of accident salvage cooperation of other ships including fire-fighting.

It is to be mentioned that at present there are 5 tugboats in the fleet of Mongla port. 4 of them are more than 30 years old. Which are in a state of disrepair.
