Two new trust funds launched at DU

Two new trust funds titled “Ayesha-Amirul Trust Fund” and “ShaheedSharafat-Mohammed Shahidullah Trust Fund” have been established at Dhaka University (DU). The university Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present on these occasions as chief guest.

Retired Senior Secretary Kazi Rowshan Akhter handed over a cheque for Tk. 10 lakh and Md. Abu Taher, brother of Shaheed Sharafat Ali and Mohammed Shahidullah handed over a cheque for Tk.15lakh separately to the Treasurer of the university Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed on Monday (June 19, 2023) at the VC’s Lounge of the university to set up the setrust funds.

Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Md. AbdusSamad, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof. Dr. AKM MahbubHasan, Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker, chairpersons of different departments and donors’ family members were present on these occasions. 

Out of the income of “Ayesha-Amirul Trust Fund”, every years some financially challenged students of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU will be given scholarship. 

Besides, out of the income of “Shaheed Sharafat-Mohammed Shahidullah Trust Fund”, some financially challenged students of the Department of Mathematics, Department of Applied Mathematics and the Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT) of DU will be givens cholarship.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman thanked the donors for setting up these two trust funds. Financially challenged students will be highly benefitted by these trust funds, he hoped. These initiatives of donors will also play an effective role in making inclusive society as well as achieving Sustainable Development Goals, he added. 

It may be mentioned that retired Senior Secretary Kazi Rowshan Akhter, a former student of the Department of English of DU donated money to set up “Ayesha-Amirul Trust Fund” to perpetuate the memories of her parents.

Besides, former teacher of the Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT) Dr. Mohammed Shahidullah who is living in USA donated money to set up “ShaheedSharafat-Mohammed Shahidullah Trust Fund”. 

Elder brother of Mohammed Shahidullah and former Lecturer of DU Mathematics Department Shaheed Sharafat Ali was brutally killed by barbaric Pakistan Army on March 25 in 1971.
