Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) arrested two people including a staff member of the Election Commission in connection with NID card and COVID-19 vaccine card forgery.

They allegedly embezzled huge amounts of money by secretly trading confidential information of NID, birth registration certificate and forged COVID-19 vaccination cards.

The arrested were identified as Md. Jamal Uddin data entry operator of the EC, and an associate Liton Molla.

CTTC arrested Liton Mollah from Bagerhat and Jamal Uddin from Pabna on Tuesday.

However, Additional Commissioner of Police (CTTC) Md. Asaduzzaman disclosed it on Thursday.

CTTC unearthed the gang while monitoring social media and monitored their movement for a long time.

After identifying them along with their locations, CTTC nabbed the duo.

The CTTC official claimed that during primary interrogations, the criminals admitted their involvement in the forgery.

Liton Mollah used to collect NID related information from the EC server through Jamal.

The gang used to provide fake NID cards, digital copies of birth registrations and COVID-19 vaccination cards in exchange for money. The CTTC chief said for such work, they used to take at least Tk 3 thousand after collecting customers through WhatsApp groups.

However, the amount would be fixed depending on  the importance of the clients.

A case was filed with Ramna police station against them in this connection and they are currently under police custody as per order of the court.
