Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani stations of the Metrorail are set to open on December 13.
This will bring the total number of operational stations from Uttara to Motijheel to 14 out of 16.
Despite this expansion, there will be no change in the current operation hours. It is expected that it will take at least six months for the metro rail to extend its operating hours till midnight.
MAN Siddique, the Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), provided this information at his office in the capital on Thursday.
He said that during the inauguration of the second part of the Metrorail, he had announced that all stations up to Motijheel would be opened within the next three months.
The opening of Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani Stations is a continuation of that plan.
“The metro rail will continue to operate up to Motijheel and Agargaon as per the previous schedule, without any changes in the operation time. However, the Shahbagh and Kawran Bazar metro stations will be opened gradually,” he added.
The managing director has also said that, “When all the stations of Motijheel section are operational, the metro rail will operate till 8:30 pm in coordination with Agargaon section. After updating the software, metro rail will run fully till midnight which may take about 6 months.”
The equipment required for the operation of the station have been taken to the two stations from the depot. Training of new recruits has also been completed by now, informed the DMTCL official.
The 12 stations currently operational are — Uttara North, Uttara Centre, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Agargaon, Farmgate, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel.
