The Advisors Council Committee on Economic Affairs on Tuesday declined to give policy approval to two separate proposals placed by the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

One of the proposals, placed by the Ministry of Industries, sought approval for transferring the shares of state-owned Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) to the Ministry of Defence. The committee, however, did not recommend the proposal for policy approval.

Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), formerly an enterprise of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation, is a state-owned military ship repair facility based near the Chittagong Port, Bangladesh. CDDLis one of the largest ship builder and repair facilities in East and South Asian region, and one of the three shipyards owned and operated by the Bangladesh Navy.

The second proposal, from the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, involved handing over the Jalil Textile Mills Ltd., located in Bhatiari under Chattogram district and currently under Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation, to the Bangladesh Army for expansion of the Bangladesh Ordnance Factory (BOF) in the Chattogram area.

After discussion, the committee also refrained from recommending this proposal for policy approval.

Jalil Textile Mills Ltd. located at Chattogram, was established in 1961. The total land area of the mill is 60 Acres.

Officials said both proposals will require further scrutiny before being reconsidered for approval in the future.
