A man was killed and his wife injured as a pickup van hit their motorcycle in Birampur municipality area of the district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Malek Mondol, 46, hailed from Fulbari upazila. Malek Mondol along with his wife was heading towards Birampur Haji Clinic.
Local people said the accident occurred this noon when a speeding pickup van hit their motorcycle from behind in Tatokpur Beldanga area in the municipality, leaving the duo injured on the spot.
The wounded were taken to Birampur Upazila Health complex where the duty doctor declared Malek's dead.
Later, Malek Mondol's wife was sent to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Birampur Thana Sumon Kumar Mahanta confirmed the matter.
A case was filed with Birampur Thana in this connection.
Police constable killed in Sylhet road accident
Another report adds from Sylhet: A police constable died after being hit by a motorcycle in Moglabazar Thana area in the district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Foysal Ahmed, 27, hailed from Zakiganj upazila of the district.
Police said the accident occurred around 12:30 pm near a police check post at Parairchak on the Sylhet-Fenchuganj road. Violating the traffic signal in the check post area, the bike rider hit Foysal and fled.
Injured Foysal succumbed to his injuries at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Moglabazar Thana SM Mainuddin confirmed the matter.
Police arrested the bike rider.
