Two people, including a child, were killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Syedpur area under Burichang upazila of Cumilla district on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul Hossain, 16, son of Kamal Hossain of Shahdaulatpur village under Burichang upazila and Mohammad Anis, 5, son of Billal Hossain of the same area.
The accident occurred when a Cumilla-bound private car from Dhaka hit them while they were crossing the road at around 1 pm, leaving the two dead on the spot, said officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway Police Belal Uddin Jahangir.
Locals seized the private car and handed over its driver to the highway police, the OC added.
