Two get life in drug case in Sirajganj

A court has sentenced a bus driver and a supervisor to life imprisonment in a drug case for possession of heroin in Sirajganj. At the same time, he has been sentenced to one more year of imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 20,000.On Tuesday noon, a District and Sessions Judge Fazle Khoda pronounced the verdict in the presence of the accused.

The convicts are Liton Hossain, supervisor of Rifat Paribahan, son of late Jitu Pramanik of Ramkantpur village in Ullapara upazila of the district and Md. Shibpur village of the same upazila. Saiful Islam's son is bus driver Sohag Ali. The matter has been confirmed by Abdur Rahman of the District and Sessions Judge's Court (PP). According to the details of the case, on August 29, 2016, on the basis of secret information, an expedition team of RAB-12 searched the Dhaka-bound Rifat Paribahan bus coming from Natore. During the interrogation of the driver and supervisor of the bus, RAB recovered 858 grams of heroin from the bunker of the bus shown by the driver and supervisor. Later, RAB's DAD Yunus Ali filed a case with Salanga Police Station accusing the supervisor and the driver along with the recovered heroin.

The court passed the verdict in the presence of the accused as the allegations were proved by the testimony of 8 witnesses.
