Two fined in Savar for polluting air

Two people were fined for polluting air by keeping sand, soil, cement and bricks on open places at Savar upazila in Dhaka. A mobile court, led by executive magistrate Foizunnesa Akter, conducted drives in Harindhara and Hemayetpur areas on Sunday and fined the two people.

Deputy director of Dhaka district of Department of Environment (DoE) Md. Johirul Islam Talukder confirmed the matter. 

He said the magistrate fined two people Tk 1.7 lakh for polluting air by keeping sand, soil, cement and bricks on open places.

The DoE on February began a special drive to check the air pollution. On that day, Department of Environment conducted special drives at five places in and around Dhaka.

During the drives on the day, 26 vehicles were fined Tk 85,000 while 10 institutions Tk 3.6 lakh on charges of polluting environment.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shahab Uddin visited the  drives in Manik Mia Avenue, Khilkhet and Aftabnagar areas.
