Two people, including a child, drowned in flood waters at Bahadur Sadi in Kaliganj of Gazipur district.
The deceased have been identified as Maria Akhter, 6, daughter of Nazmul Haque of Betua village under Bahadur Sadi union and Oliullah Khan, 29, son of Riaz Uddin of Uttargaon village under Kaliganj municipality. Oliullah is Maria's uncle.
Maria Betua is a government primary school student and Oliullah is a retuned expatriate. Kaliganj Police Station OC AKM Mizanul Haque said Oliullah lived at his father-in-law's house in Betua area of Baha dursadi Union in Kaliganj and he kept cows.
At around 6 pm on Sunday, Oliullah was selling his cow's milk to the people of the area. He was on his way to Betua by crossing a beel in a konda (a boat made of palm trees) with Maria.
At one stage, Konda suddenly drowned in the flood waters in the middle of the beel.
