Two-day OIC session stresses comprehensive reform

The 2nd Brainstorming Session on Comprehensive Reform of the OIC concluded in the capital on Thursday, coming out with thoughts, ideas and proposals for a comprehensive reform of the OIC in a systematic manner, report agencies.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam delivered the closing remarks. The two days conference was attended by more than 100 high representatives from 57 OIC member states, their permanent mission to the OIC, the General Secretariat, 6 subsidiary organs of OIC, and a number of affiliated organs of OIC.

It was jointly co-chaired by Bangladesh, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the General Secretariat. Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen inaugurated the two- day session on 19th February and urged the delegates from all OIC member states, OIC General Secretariat and Organs of OIC to offer views and visions to identify areas, issues and possible solutions towards a comprehensive reform of the OIC.

The member states and organisations had the opportunity of presenting their thoughts, views and ideas on the comprehensive reform of the OIC and the result came out in the brainstorming process developed a floor to give a strategic look at expert level for creating reform proposals.

In addition, Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF) together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a brief presentation on the activities that will be conducted during the Dhaka OIC Youth capital 2020 celebration. Bangladesh was lauded for her efforts to host this event by the member states.

With the articulation of all thoughts, ideas and proposals of reformation, the OIC is going to enter into the phase of intense administrative work. The next phase of the reform process would be synchronizations and synthesization of the ideas toward a solid set of democratic and consensus-based convergent formulations.

As regards implementation of the reforms agreed, the Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGGE) and the Eminent Persons Group will decide whether implementation would be done item by item, in a graduated manner or as a consolidated package.

The state minister particularly thanked the Co-Chairs for their support and cooperation in conducting the brainstorming meetings. He also invited all OIC member states to join the celebration commemorating the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation throughout the year.

The OIC delegates paid rich tribute to the memory of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and to the memory of the language martyrs (Bhasa Shaheed) on the eve of the International Mother Language Day. Shahriar thanked the Saudi Government for its continued support towards the OIC.
