Two cousins died after drowning in a pond at Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at Kusharigaon village of Pirganj at 11:00am.
The deceased were identified as Rafia, 5, daughter of Delwar Hossain, resident of Kusharigaon village and her cousin Safa, 3, son of Sumon Islam, resident of the same area.
Uncle of the deceased, Nazrul Islam, said the children were playing near the pond. At one stage, they went missing. Later, family members saw their bodies at the pond.
Locals recovered the bodies of the children from the pond.
Officer-in-charge of Pirganj police station Khairul Anam Don confirmed the matter and said the bodies were handed over to the family members of the deceased as there was no complaint. An unnatural death (UD) case was filed with the police station in this connection.
