Cloths worth 1.5 crore taka in two containers are not being found from Chittagong port. After participating in the auction and completing all the arrangements for the delivery of the goods, including customs charges, the two containers are not being found.
According to customs sources, last February, Shah Amanat Trading owner Selim Reza bought a container of about 27 tons of fabrics for 85 lakh taka at the Chittagong Customs auction.
He first inspected the goods in the container, then paid the duty, price and port charges for 1 crore 7 lakh taka. But when he went to the yard with the truck on February 26, he was informed that the container was missing. Six months have passed since the incident, but no trace has been found.
Selim Reza complained that he had written three letters to the Customs Commissioner. So far, he has not received any good response. Our business is being closed, the financial loss is over 1.5 million taka.
Chittagong Custom House Deputy Commissioner Md. Shakib Hossain said, we will first write to the port to ask if the goods are available; if the goods are not available, the refund process will start.
Chittagong Port Secretary Md. Omar Faruk said, there are 48 to 49 thousand containers at Chittagong Port. Out of these, during handling, one container may not be where it is supposed to be. It is somewhere else. The matter is being investigated. There is no chance of it being missing here. If found, we will inform you.
