Two children, Arafat, 6, and Nur Nabi, 7, drowned at a pond at Singra upazila in Natore on Friday. The incident took place at Bunkuri village in Italy union of the upazila at noon.
The deceased Arafat was the son of Ali Akbar and Nur Nabi was the son of Aminul of the same village. Both of them are students of class-1 of the local BRAC school.
The children were each other's cousins. At noon they went out to play. After the Jumma prayers, the family members could not find them anywhere and started searching around. Later, their bodies were recovered from the pond.
Italy Union Parishad chairman Ariful Islam said, “It was a very painful incident and we are shocked. Efforts will be made to support the family officially.”
