Two separate cases have been filed in connection with the murder of Meherpur District Jamaat assistant secretary Tariq Muhammad Saiful Islam and the attack, looting and arson at his house.

Tawfiqul Islam, the brother of the victim, filed two cases in the Meherpur Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday.

Tariq Muhammad Saiful Islam, 35, is the elder son of former Ameer of Meherpur District Jamaat Alhaj Chamir Uddin.

In the Tariq Muhammad Saiful Islam murder case, former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, along with AKM Nahidul Islam (Superintendent of Police in Meherpur district in 2014), Mostafizur Rahman, ASC Abdul Jalil, DB Officer-in-Charge Babul Akhtar, Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge Riazul Alam, Executive Magistrate Momin Mazumdar, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Farid Hossain, and RAB-6 Gangni Camp Commander Captain Ashraf Hossain, among 19 police, BGB, and RAB personnel, have been named as accused. Additionally, 20 to 30 unknown individuals have also been mentioned in the case. The primary accused in the case is the then Superintendent of Police, AKM Nahidul Islam.

The complaint in the case states that on January 1, 2014, Tariq Muhammad Saiful Islam was forcibly abducted at gunpoint by members of the police, BGB, and RAB in front of the main gate of Islami Bank in Meherpur town, under the instructions of the then Superintendent of Police, Nahidul Islam. The police, led by Nahidul Islam and Sadar Thana officers, denied the arrest when questioned by Tariq's family, claiming he was not in custody. Later that night, at around 11 PM, Tariq was brutally tortured and shot in the chest and abdomen at Bamanpara crematorium, resulting in his death.

Without informing Tariq’s family, the accused took his body to the morgue, prepared a post-mortem report, and attempted to manipulate the incident. Despite repeated requests from the family for the autopsy report, the police refused to provide it. When the family insisted, they were threatened with death by the accused.

Meanwhile, another case has been filed under the Speedy Trial Act. According to the complaint, the plaintiff mentioned that following the announcement of Delwar Hossain Sayedee’s death sentence on February 28, 2013, Awami League leaders and activists, armed with sticks and sharp weapons, took to the streets in a frenzied celebration and attacked Tariq Muhammad Saiful Islam’s shop Messrs Tawhid Auto, located in front of his house. The attackers broke the shop’s shutters, looted cash and goods, and set the shop on fire, reducing everything to ashes.
