Two business entities fined Tk 20,000 in Chuadanga

Chuadanga District Taskforce Committee and Director of National Consumers’ Right Protection conducted a raid on two business establishments in Boro Bazar area of Chuadanga on Wednesday and fined the owners a total of Tk 90,000 for selling adulterated baby food.

They seized the adulterated baby foods and destroyed them by burning them in public.

Sajal Ahmed, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection in Chuadanga, said the team found Messrs Hira Store selling unauthorized, substandard, counterfeit, and expired baby food without proper labeling. Additionally, the store used harmful dyes in the products. As a result, the store owner, Muktar Ali, was fined Tk 80,000 under sections 37 and 45 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.

Similarly, Gias Uddin, owner of Messrs Piyas Store, was fined Tk 10,000 for keeping and showing unauthorized, substandard, and harmful baby food in his store.

The seized items were publicly destroyed in front of business leaders and the general public. Assistant Director Sajal Ahmed led the drive, assisted by Senior Warrant Officers Jahangir and Aminul Islam from the Army.
