Turnover hits six-week high on DSE

Stocks witnessed upward trend on Thursday with the turnover hitting a six-week high on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) as institutional investors invested fresh funds on sector-wise securities. 

The turnover crossed the Tk 11 billion-mark to stand at Tk 11.16 billion after six weeks, up 39 percent than the previous day’s tally of Tk 8.01 billion.

DSEX, the key index of the DSE increased by 4.07 points or 0.06 percent to settle at 6,757, after losing over 11 points the previous day.

The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, went up 8.40 points to close at 2,474 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) increased by 4.18 points to finish at 1,468.

Experts said some optimistic investors took their position on stocks by investing fresh funds as the securities regulator is trying to boost market liquidity through collaboration with market operators.

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and the associations of market operators Wednesday reached the deci

sion to create a special fund worth Tk 100 billion for increasing institutional participation in stock.

However, as out of 379 issues traded, 183 declined, 134 advanced and 62 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Fortune Shoes topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 1.38 billion changing hands. It was followed by Sonali Paper (Tk 1.02 billion), Genex Infosys (Tk 692 million), Beximco (Tk 469 million), and IPDC Finance (Tk 188 million).

Newly listed JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing was the top gainer, posting 10 percent gain, while UCB was the day’s worst loser, losing 3.82 percent following its corporate declarations.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw a slight lower with its selective category index (CSCX) losing 15 points in the last week to close at 11,847 points.

The All-Share Price Index (CASPI) of the CSE was also lower by 26 points to close at 19,748 points.

Of the 309 issues traded, 98 advanced, 169 declined and 42 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city's bourse traded 2.60 crore shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 615 crore during the last week.
